History of Club La Santa

Club la Santa is nestled in the northwest of Lanzarote, near the traditional fishing village of La Santa. The resort’s foundations were erected in 1968, and roughly 400 apartments were built. However, the complex was never completed due to the oil crisis and was left abandoned to decay for the next decade.

Ejlif Krogager, a.k.a. “Tjaerborg Priest,” the proprietor of Tjaerborg Travel, stumbled into the derelict resort and recognized a great opportunity. He saw a paradise where athletes, sports fans, and active individuals could enjoy sun-filled vacations while also pursuing their passion for fitness.

Following some lengthy talks, the resort’s ownership was transferred to Tjaereborg Travel in 1978, and it opened its doors for the first time as “La Santa Sport” in June 1983. Unfortunately, the first years brought significant earning losses. Despite this, Ejlif Krogager remained confident that the resort is a gold mine, and it was simply a question of when they would find the gold.

Ejlif Krogager sold Tjaereborg Travel Spies in 1989, except for Club La Santa, which remained in the Krogager family thereafter. The tourist complex finally achieved its first profit in 1995. Sadly, Elif Krogager died in 1992 and never got to see the Club La Santa gold.

Why Visit Club La Santa

The Club La Santa Resort is where athletes and fitness enthusiasts can come to train and better themselves. However, it is also an excellent destination for families and those who simply want to relax in the beautiful surroundings. Lanzarote is an amazing island that offers something for everyone, and Club La Santa is the perfect place to experience it all. Here are just some of the reasons you should visit and stay at Club La Santa!

Active Holidays for Everyone

Club La Santa is host to the oldest Ironman race in Europe and outside the US, playing a vital role in the success of the triathlon and its rich, 30-year-long history on the island. With three Olympic-sized swimming pools, high-end running tracks, on-site hiking and biking trails, as well as seemingly endless pristine roads, this resort is a playground to the pros, such as Anne Haug, Michelle Vesterby, and Lucy Charles–Barclay. So don’t be astonished if you find yourself exercising alongside your sporting heroes in the outstanding facilities of this complex.

Club La Santa is not only a destination for elite professional sportsmen; everyone will enjoy and benefit from spending time at Club La Santa. Being in peak physical shape is not a requirement to have a great time here. Triathlon training camps and all other activities are structured for all levels, allowing all visitors, from children to the elderly, as well as absolute novices and seasoned keep-fit-fanatics, to make the most of their stay.

Not the type to spend an entire vacation upping your fitness level? That’s fine! Visitors are free to do as much or as little as they like. Everyone can also relax and unwind within the complex or anywhere around the island.

Year-Round Perfect Weather

You can visit Club La Santa anytime, thanks to the dry, sunny, and moderate climate of Lanzarote throughout the year. Temperatures range from roughly 20°C in January to 28°C in the summer. Plus, rainy spells are scarce and quick. This is the place to go if you want to escape the chilly European weather and train under the warm sun, among breathtaking scenery.

Club La Santa’s facilities are available at all times of the year. Spring and autumn are the ideal times to visit to avoid higher temperatures. If you want to come when fewer people are around, late spring is the best time to go, while summer is the perfect time to work on your tan.

Modern Accommodation

In 2014, Club La Santa opened 96 suites designed by Henning Larsen Architects, a reknowned architectural firm based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The suites are nestled in a vast, tranquil space south of the resort. They boast the unique beauty of Lanzarote’s white stone houses and contrasting black lava combined with Scandinavian design’s clean and simple lines. Apart from being quite the vision, the units were created with function in mind. Some have also been adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Inside, the apartments are modern and spacious, decked with simple yet stylish furniture and necessities for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the rooms are wide, each with twin beds, a good size wardrobe, and a comfortable work area. Built with a large terrace and windows, guests can admire the breathtaking views of the lagoon, volcanoes, and the vast Atlantic without leaving their temporary abode.
