Where is It?
One of the brainchild of the legendary César Manrique, Mirador Morro Velosa exemplifies the famous artist and architect’s signature style. It features the harmonious blending of architecture with nature and its surroundings. This was built in the mid-90s and is located atop Tegú Mountain at an astounding height of around 645 (some say 669) meters high. Mirador Morro Velosa sits between the sprawling Betancuria Rural Park and the charming hamlet of Valle de Santa Inés. On your visit, make sure not to miss the Morro Velosa Statues, where you can take snaps of/with the 4-meter-high statues of ancient Guanche rulers, Guise and Ayose.

Note that the building designed by Manrique, which once housed the snack bar and visitor center, has been closed for years. However, a recent update advised that renovations are currently underway, so it seems we will be able to enjoy it again someday.

In addition, Mirador Morro Velosa, with its location and altitude, along with the island’s clear night sky and virtually non-existent light contamination, is an excellent site for stargazing. The late summer months are optimal for spotting the constellation Cassiopeia’s W. Also visible in the calm evening horizon are the Milky Way, Ursa Minor constellation, and the M52 cluster of young yet brightly shining stars.

- Consider bringing or wearing a jacket, as it can get windy and cool due to the mirador’s high altitude. This is especially important if you’re planning to stargaze.
- The road leading up to the viewpoint is quite steep and winding, so drive carefully.
- Make sure to check the weather forecast, as fog can obscure the views.
- Bring binoculars to better see and appreciate the surrounding landscapes and their resident wildlife.
- Bring your own drinks and snacks, as there are no cafes or shops on-site.

Restaurante Casa Santa María
Considered one of Betancuria’s culinary treasures, Casa Santa Maria may have a small menu, but their take on gourmet Canarian cuisine is sublime. You’ll find the restaurant in a lovely 17th-century house with a tranquil courtyard and an outside terrace overlooking the small village, perfect for some al fresco dining.
On your visit, we recommend starting your meal with majorero cheese, followed by braised goat leg in rosemary sauce or solomillo served with pepper sauce. To cap off the experience with an even higher note, their chocolate mousse and apple strudel with vanilla ice cream will have you booking a return reservation.
Casa de la Naturaleza
Going a bit farther to Casa de la Naturaleza is all worth the drive. This culinary oasis for Canarian fare is like an old English pub inside but is enveloped in unbelievably stunning surroundings. You can sit indoors to enjoy the cozy ambience or dine amongst mountains in the garden or shaded courtyard because why not? You’re in Fuerteventura, after all.
Their roast goat with gravy, braised oxtail, country chicken, and incredible selection of delicious tapas all pair perfectly with the local wine or even a cup of cappuccino. For dessert, the apple strudel—big enough to share between two people—serves as a sweet farewell kiss to this unforgettable dining experience.
La Sombra
Vegans and vegetarians, don’t despair. There is an excellent option nearby, just a few meters away from Museo Arqueológico de Fuerteventura. La Sombra is a popular choice for plant-based diners and meat lovers alike, offering a lovely meal and mood underneath swaying palms and among cacti.
A good selection of burgers, which are all mouthwatering, especially the vegan burger and wagyu burger, makes up most of the La Sombra menu, but the star dishes are their crispy falafel balls and Canarian wrinkled potatoes with cheese. The homemade nachos, served with two different yummy dips, also make for a great appetizer while the rest of your order is being prepared.
How to Get There
By Bus
Bus line 2 directly connects Puerto del Rosario to Betancuria. Once you reach the village, you need to take a taxi or walk uphill for a good 40 minutes to reach the viewpoint. If you’re coming from other parts of the island, simply make your way to the capital city first—take bus line 6 if you’re coming from Corralejo or 3 from Caleta de Fuste.
By Car
To reach the Mirador from Puerto del Rosario, drive along FV-20 onto the FV-30 road towards Betancuria. It’s a scenic drive through winding hills, which should take about 30 minutes. If you’re coming from the south—like Morro Jable, Jandía, Costa Calma, La Lajita, or Gran Tarajal—take FV-2. Meanwhile, for travelers coming up north, including Tindaya, La Oliva, Villaverde, and Corralejo, find your way to FV-10 then FV-207 to reach the viewpoint.
